Do you love to make music? Do you play an instrument? Then you're in the right place!
The Nijmegen Student Orchestra CMC is a symphony orchestra for all students who love playing music together. Perhaps you've watched us perform during one of our concerts. Two concerts are held at the end of each half year, in various lovely concert halls, such as Concertgebouw de Vereeniging at Keizer Karel Square. As a student association, we also organise many other fun activities for our members besides making music. We often have drinks after rehearsal, go on frequent outings, and every two years we go on tour.
Our new programme
On 10 December, we will give another concert in concert hall de Vereeniging. Here we will play a wonderful programme consisting of Tchaikovsky's 6th symphony (the Pathétique), Khachaturian's dancing Masquerade Suite and Arutiunian's virtuoso trumpet concerto with soloist Mechthild Drop.
Tchaikovsky's sixth, and last, symphony was described by himself as his best work. This emotionally charged piece was named pathétique, which can mean both endearing and dramatic. The lively Masquerade suite is based on Kacharurian's Masquerade, composed in 1941 as stage music for Lermontov's play of the same name. Ten years later, Arutiunian wrote his trumpet concerto: a showpiece full of lyricism and energy. Curious? Come and listen!
The orchestra
The Nijmegen Student Orchestra Collegium Musicum Carolinum is a symphony orchestra consisting mainly of students and alumni of Radboud University the HAN and the ROC.
Meet the Conductor
Pim Cuijpers studied orchestral conducting at the Conservatory of Amsterdam under conductors Ed Spanjaard and Lucas Vis.
