A fairytale-like winter concert

The concert opens with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, featuring soloist Florian Verweij. This piano concerto is one of the most famous and virtuosic works of the Romantic period, iconic for its overwhelming opening with powerful piano chords and a grand string theme.

After the break, we will perform ‘Scheherazade’ by Rimsky-Korsakov. This famous symphonic suite is based on the tales from 'One Thousand and One Nights'. The four-movement work tells the story of Sultan Shahryar, who, in a fit of vengeance, orders his wives to be put to death, yet remains spellbound by Scheherazade’s stories. The music is renowned for its exotic atmosphere, orchestral colours and the leading violin theme that represents the storyteller Scheherazade.

Do you love to make music? Do you play an instrument? Then you're in the right place!

The Nijmegen Student Orchestra CMC is a symphony orchestra for all students who love playing music together. Perhaps you've watched us perform during one of our concerts. Two concerts are held at the end of each half year, in various lovely concert halls, such as Concertgebouw de Vereeniging at Keizer Karel Square. As a student association, we also organise many other fun activities for our members besides making music. We often have drinks after rehearsal, go on frequent outings, and every two years we go on tour.
